Snow!

We finally had our first real snowstorm of the winter.  It started snowing this morning and we were thrilled to see huge fluffy flakes as the snow piled up on our lawn.  Bryant worked two 24 hour shifts earlier in the week so he has been off since Tuesday and doesn't go back until next Monday, which meant that we didn't have the leave our cozy house.  Except to go play in the snow.  Connor was definitely more excited to play in the snow than Lily, but that was primarily due to his age and ability to walk easily through the snow without face planting.  Bryant sawed up the remains of our Christmas tree and piled them on the sled to take them out to the trash, but he realized they would fall off and decided to use Connor to weigh them down.  Connor loved the sleigh ride to and from the trash can and even tried to return the favor by attempting to pull his dad on the sled.  They stopped to make snow angels in the front yard and then returned to the back to build our first ever snowman.  I had been holding Lily at this point for the last 10 minutes because she didn't want to be in the snow so we decided to go in and watch from the windows.

I cry at the silliest moments.  And today was another one of them.  For some reason I began to get teary as I watched Bryant build the snowman with Connor.  I think it was because it seemed to mark his departure from toddlerhood into childhood.  It was his first snowman.  He excitedly chatted the entire time in between mouthfuls of snow (which, by the way, are SO UMMY!) and loved collecting the materials to accessorize said snowman.  They used a stray branch from our Christmas tree and a spatula for arms, chestnuts for eyes, a carrot for the nose, and rocks for the buttons and smile.  Connor loved his snowman.

This afternoon the snow turned to rain and very little of our snowman remains.  Our fabulous neighbor kids came over around 5pm to see if Connor could come out and play with them so we dressed him back up in his snow clothes, and Lily's pink and purple mittens because we managed to lose his, and sent him outside where he happily played until dinner.  We have the best neighbors.  And it was fun to have some snow.
